*Ampacities (Amps per conductor) are based on 40°C ambient temperature in air per the 1999 NEC, Table 400-5(A). Ampacities for 3/C and 4/C cords assume 1 conductor is used as a ground or neutral and does not carry current. Ampacities for 5/C cords assume 2 conductors are used as ground and neutral and do not carry current.
Primarily
designed for use with festoon systems for carrying electrical power and control
to cranes, hoists or any other equipment which travels with a lateral traversing
motion. FLAT-FLEX cables can also be used where space is at a premium, since it
can be stacked; FLAT-FLEX cables are widely used in convention halls and exhibit
centers as under carpet cables for distribution and booth lighting. Flat cable
has several advantages over round cable. The main benefit is one can usually use
a smaller carrier than with same round cable since the minimum bend radius of
flat cable can be 1/3 or less of the round. Since the bend radius is tighter and
all the conductors are in one plane, flat cable will easily compress into a
ribbon shape when in storage. Round cable has a tendency to twist and sometimes
catch on other loops. The flat design also makes it easy to stack multiple
cables into a compact package.
